Movie Review - Surrogates

Surrogates **

Starring - Bruce Willis(Agent Greer) Radha Mitchell(Agent Peters)

What an interesting story. Surrogates can be purchased by a human who look like unflawed, fit, good looking versions of themselves that the human then controls online.

With surrogates, humans are safe from accidents, and diseases as they stay indoors all the time and control their surrogates to do their day to day tasks online.

When a new weapon surfaces that kills surrogates and their controllers, Agent Greer and Peters take on the case, which leads them to the Surrogate inventor.

The inventor wants surrogates gone. After years of living life as a surrogate and never feeling, or breathing fresh air of his own, he feels it is time to change the world back to the way it use to be. In order to change the world back, he uploads a virus that will wipe out all surrogates and their controllers.

With the quick work of Agent Greer, all the controllers are saved, but then he decides for humanity sake to let the surrogates fail, forcing humanity to come out of their homes and start living their lives as humans again.

Event Review - Ottawa Help Santa Toy Parade

What a disappointment.

Last night we attended the Ottawa Help Santa Toy Parade and it was truly disappointing. This year they had changed the time and the route and I thought it would have been better than previous years, but it wasn't.
I actually find some of the smaller towns and Cities around the Ottawa area have way better parades than this one, and that is really sad.

We are Canada's Capital. We should have a very unique and eye popping display of floats and talent in our parade, but instead we have nothing.

Yesterday we saw no talent, no dancers were dancing, no musicians were playing their instruments. We were at the beginning of the parade and the parade was moving so fast that they had to run to keep up. If we blinked we would have missed it.

Come on Ottawa, we can do better that this next year. Let's look at the some of the parades they have in the states and try to do 10X better. Next year, people will come to our city to take part in the parade. Next year, lets revamp this parade into something better.

Movie Review - Super Hero Movie

Super Hero Movie **

Starring - Drake Bell(Ricky Riker), Sara Paxton(Jill)Kevin Hart(Trey)

This movie was one of those stupid funny movies, that usually I am not to fond of.
This one had some funny moments, that actually had me laughing.

This movie was a spoof of some Hollywood Blockbusters such as spiderman and Xmen, and The Fantastic 4.

Ricky is a loser. A big loser, his hot neighbor, Jill, whom he has had a crush on forever, doesn't know he exists, and his best friend, isn't really all that nice to him.

When out on a school trip Ricky gets bitten by a genetically enhanced dragonfly(like Spiderman gets bit by the Spider) which gives him super powers. He calls himself the dragon fly and creates a costume.

Then comes along the bad guy, known as the hour glass, who sucks the life out of anyone he touches, but he must do this to survive. His plan is to give himself immortality at a cost of 47 odd thousand lives.

Then the drama ensues with Dragon fly fighting the Hourglass.

It was an OK movie.

Book Review and Rating - House of Night series: Untamed

Untamed

Written by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast

Characters- Zoey, Shaunee, Damien, Neferet, Nyx, Erik, Stevie Rae, Aphrodite, Heath, Grandma Redbird, Loren

This was another great book. The fourth in the series. A great read and storyline.

In this book, Zoey finds herself very alone. Her life sucks, her friends are pissed off at her, and she has gone from having three boyfriends to none. Stevie Rae is by her side, but needs to stay in the tunnels with the other red vampyres and Aphrodite has become human and has her own issues she is dealing with. Neferet has declared war on the humans and Zoey knows this is wrong and someone must stop her.

A new student has transferred to their school, James Stark, the Olympic Archer. Zoey meets him, and just as they start to connect, James dies.

Meanwhile, Neferet has declared a war on humans after it appears that the People of the Faith have murdered two vampyres.

Aphrodite’s latest visions show Zoey’s death and what the world will become after her death, and it is not good. Zoey knows that a way with humans is wrong, and she finally rallies her friends and tells them everything. Once they realize why Zoey was keeping secrets, they forgive her and they try to come up with a plan to stop Neferet.

Of course, in the end, Neferet wins, with the circle of friends, running to Stevie Rae's tunnels to take cover from the evil Neferet has released with the help of Stark. But is Stark really working with Neferet? What will happen next. I can't wait to find out.

Book Review - House of Night series: Chosen

Chosen

Written by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast

Characters- Zoey, Shaunee, Damien, Neferet, Nyx, Erik, Stevie Rae, Aphrodite, Heath, Grandma Redbird, Loren

This was a great book. The third in the series of the House of Night books.

In this book, Zoey has a lot to deal with. Her best friend Stevie Rae is dead, or really undead, and she needs to help her get her humanity back. She is juggling three boys, her boyfriend Eric, her ex-boyfriend Heath, and teacher Loren.

Zoey feels alone, because she can't confide in her friends about Stevie Rae, because Neferet, will be able to read her mind. She then realizes she can confide in Aphrodite, who knows alot more than she says.

Zoey and Aphrodite try to help Stevie Rae, when they find a vampyre professor Nolan murdered and Zoey has a feeling that her step dad killed the professor.

Neferet calls an all out war on the humans.

Zoey casts a circle with the help of Aphrodite who is holding the element of earth for Stevie Rae. When the circle is cast, Aphrodite and Stevie Rae unite, with Stevie Rae becoming a new kind of vampire, a red marked vampyre and Aphrodite becoming human again. What will happen in the next book. I can't wait to read.

My rating 8/10

Things need changing

I just read a post in the paper today regarding the cost of taxi cab fares that the public works department and the defense department spend. See below

Over the last five years, Defence employees in Ottawa and Gatineau rang up more than $9 million on the meter, according to figures tabled in the House of Commons.

The only department to come close was the massive Public Works and Government Services Canada, which has doled out cab fares totaling $7.7 million since 2005-06.

I am sure there are other means of getting their employees around at a way cheaper cost.
Based on what they are spending, they could probably buy a few town cars and hire a driver or two, that would not cost near that amount over a 5 year period.

We need some common sense. Why are we as taxpayers accepting this. The gov't needs to hire some people that will help cut the beef from their budgets and bring in some new ideas. Until that happens, our pockets will be lighter and lighter. This seems to be a growing trend.

My Beef with the City

What is wrong with the City of Ottawa?

Yesterday morning Ottawa woke up to a sprinkling of snow(really minute amount of snow), that stuck to the trees and grass, but not the roads and pathways. They were completely free of snow.

What does the City do : They slather the sidewalks in salt. I don't mean a little sprinkle, but loads of salt, my guess is it is for liability reasons, but the City of Ottawa is way to salt happy.

I guess they don't realize that by slathering the walk ways in salt, without snow or ice there, they are actually causing themselves another liability as the chunks of ice are easily slipped on, just like gravel on a path.

I just can't believe they would put salt down without snow. This is why the City of Ottawa is broke.
We don't need all this salt. Come on City staff, Smarten up and start using our resources when necessary. I would hate for the City to run out of salt on the brink of something like another ice storm because you used it up when it wasn't needed.

Use some common sense please.
